The Akashic Records – History and Philosophy
What are the Akashic Records?
The Akashic Records are a “cosmic library” that contains information about every soul, every thought, and every experience across time, past, present and future possibilities.
This is the short and concise definition of what the Akashic Records are.
The word “Akashic” comes from the Sanskrit term Akasha, meaning ether or space. But, on the contrary to our idea of space, the Akashic Records are not empty space—but a subtle, intelligent field that holds vibration, memory, and potential an invisible field that exists everywhere and holds everything together.
The idea behind this energetic field that exists all around us and holds our universe together is not something new and it is not restricted to the Indian philosophies.
Let’s begin with understanding a little bit about how different and modern civilisations and philosophies approached this realm.

Ancient India: The Origin of the word Akasha
When: Around 1500 BCE
Where: Indian subcontinent
Texts: Vedas and Upanishads
In Vedic philosophy, Akasha is the foundational element from which all things emerge.
The Akashic Records are the carrier of sound, vibration, and information—a field that permeates everything.
Akasha is one of the five elements:
- Earth
- Water
- Fire
- Air
- Akasha (space/ether)
Moreover, this 5th element is one we can’t physically see but holds everything together. It is the container of all other elements.
In other words, the Records are not a place you can visit. It’s not physical, but it is a vibrational field that exists all around us and penetrates everything.
It is a conscious and living field of energy that holds all the information and history of our universe in vibrational form.
Ancient yogis believed that through deep meditation, they could access knowledge not through study—but through direct perception of truth within this field.
The main principles of this element are:
👉 Everything exists within this field
👉 Everything leaves an imprint as information
👉 Awareness determines access
Ancient Egypt: The Hall of Records
When: Around 2500 BCE
Where: Ancient Egypt
Egyptian mystery teachings spoke of a hidden repository of knowledge—often referred to as the “Hall of Records.”
Whether literal or symbolic, it pointed to a powerful idea:
👉 There is knowledge that exists beyond ordinary perception
👉 Not everyone can access it
👉 Access requires alignment with truth
The concept of Ma’at—representing cosmic order and truth—was central. Ma’at was the one holding everything together. The goddess of order, truth, and justice.
To access higher knowledge, one had to be in harmony with Ma’at the deity that holds everything together.
Ancient Egyptians believed that in order to access the higher information that is comprising the Universe, one needs to be in alignment with the Truth, Harmony, Integrity and Balance.
Ancient Greece: Knowledge as Remembering
When: Around 400 BCE
Where: Ancient Greece
Philosopher: Plato
Plato introduced the idea of a non-physical realm where all truth exists—the World of Forms.
Everything we see in our world, has an archetypal form that is pure, everlasting, unchanging and holds all the information about it.
He also described Anamnesis, the idea that learning is actually remembering. This knowledge is accessible and actually we are part of it, so we just need to recollect the right information by remembering it.
👉 Knowledge is key
👉We can access knowledge through proper alignment
Basically, Plato was reffering to the part of the Records that actually holds the information of everything in its purest form before it was distorted from the physical existence.

Hermeticism: The Universal Mind
When: 1st–3rd century CE
Where: Alexandria
Text: Corpus Hermeticum
Hermetic teachings have one core principle:
The All is Mind.
Everything exists within a universal consciousness.
Which means:
👉 All knowledge already exists
👉 Separation is an illusion
👉 Access depends on awareness
This is one of the clearest philosophical parallels to the Akashic Records.
The Akashic Records are part of the Universal Intelligence that holds everything together.
Not a mystical place.
A state of connection to universal intelligence.
Kabbalah: The Book of Life
When: Developed between 1200–1600 CE
Where: Europe & Middle East
Tradition: Kabbalah
Kabbalistic teachings speak of the “Book of Life”—a record where all human actions and soul experiences exist as information.
At a deeper level, this reflects the same principle:
👉 Everything is recorded
👉 Consciousness carries memory
The difference is framing.
In Kabbalah, it’s moral and divine.
In modern spirituality, it’s energetic and vibrational.
But the core idea? The same.
Buddhism: The Storehouse Consciousness
When: Around 4th century CE
Where: India and East Asia
Concept: Alaya-vijnana
In Yogacara Buddhism, Alaya-vijnana is the “storehouse consciousness” that store all the karmic imprints.
Every thought, every action plants a seed.
Those seeds later shape reality.
The laws of this storehouse are mainly:
👉 Consciousness records everything
👉 Those records influence your experience
👉 Awareness changes the outcome
Sound familiar?
Theosophy: Where the Term “Akashic Records” Was Born
When: Late 19th century
Key Figure: Helena Blavatsky
This is where the modern term “Akashic Records” entered spiritual language.
Blavatsky described them as a cosmic archive of all events, accessible to those with developed perception.
Later, Edgar Cayce brought this concept into mainstream awareness by claiming to access the Records for healing and guidance.
This is where things shifted:
👉 From philosophy → to application
👉 From concept → to tool
And also—where distortion began.
How they all meet

When we look across these civilizations, philosophies, and spiritual systems, we can see the pattern:
Different cultures, different languages, different eras, different continents…
Yet they all pointed toward the same underlying truth:
👉 Human experience is vibration that is “stored” and can be accessed
👉 All knowledge already exists and we can access with the right tools
👉 This information is what holds the form of our reality together
Some called it Akasha.
Many called it the Universal Mind.
A lot described it as the Book of Life, the World of Forms, or the Storehouse Consciousness.
Those different names are talking about aspects of the same thing.
But this is where I believe modern spirituality often loses its grounding.
The Akashic Records are not here to help people escape reality, bypass accountability, or become obsessed with past lives while avoiding their present life.
They are not spiritual entertainment.
And of course they do not feed spiritual superiority.
The Akashic Records are a mirror for Truth
In my work, I approach the Records differently.
I don’t use them to tell people who they were in another lifetime just to satisfy curiosity. I use them as a tool to help people understand:
- why certain patterns keep repeating
- where energetic distortions originated
- what emotional, karmic, or ancestral imprints are still influencing their lives
- and what is required to move forward in alignment with their authentic self
In a world where we are in information overload, most people are not feelign restricted because they “don’t know enough.”
People are blocked because:
- they are carrying unresolved emotional patterns
- they are disconnected from their own truth
- they are operating from survival, conditioning, guilt, fear, or spiritual illusion
And no amount of affirmations or surface-level spirituality changes that.
The keys to alignment with the information from the Records
The Akashic Records, when approached with integrity and discernment, can become a mirror. That reflects back at us exactly what we need in order to unlock the aspects of us that bring the solutions, the change and the aligned action.
They can easily reveal:
- what’s hidden
- what has been avoided
- and what is needed for us to heal, release and integrate in order to move forward with ease and grace
Accessing the Records needs spiritual discernment, dilligence and respect. Because it is a powerful tool that with the correct use it can propel us forward into our desired life.
But this information needs initiation and preparation, because it doesn’t feed our ego and it doesn’t sugar coat anything true.
The Truth is like that, and the Akashic Records hold the truth about us, all of us.
